Amazon and Target have a wild Black Friday deal on the biggest building set in Mattel Brick Shop’s Hot Wheels collection. The 1,600-piece Mercedes-Benz 300-SL is on sale for only $48.49 (was $130). Needless to say, this is the best deal on the set since Mattel launched its Brick Shop Hot Wheels collection in August. Multiple other Hot Wheels models are featured in the promotion, including the 918-piece Elite Series Corvette Grand Sport for $29.39 (was $54) at Target.
Similar to Lego and Mega Bloks–which is owned by Mattel–Hot Wheels Brick Shop building sets are pieced together using a variety of different brick types and sizes. Whereas Mega Bloks’ Hot Wheels sets are more playful and geared toward younger audiences, Mattel’s Brick Shop kits were designed for collectors and car enthusiasts who are looking for authentic models of iconic cars from luxury manufacturers. Each Brick Shop Hot Wheels car has interactive features and comes with swappable accessories as well as a Hot Wheels diecast car. The models are built with pieces that are compatible with Lego, Mega Bloks, and other construction model brands.
Mattel Brick Shop: Hot Wheels Building Sets
Brick Shop launched with seven cars and has since added one more, with a ninth slated to release in December. Five of the sets are discounted in Black Friday sales at Amazon, Walmart, and Target, but one of the deals has already sold out. In addition to the two deals mentioned above, two smaller models are on sale for $16 (was $20): the 236-piece Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar and the 289-piece Custom ’68 Camaro.
Brick Shop Hot Wheels sets are split into three different series, each more premium and customizable than the last. The Speed Series is the entry-level tier with builds of roughly 250-300 pieces each. These budget-friendly kits will let you create a customizable, 1:32 scale replica of a sport/race car. The Elite Series is more authentic and customizable, thanks to the inclusion of metal components and significantly higher piece counts for these 1:16 scale models. The Premium Series currently only has the Mercedes-Benz, but it has nearly double the number of pieces as the Elite Series builds and produces a 1:12 scale model.
