Far and wide, Chromecast devices have been well received since the line’s inception in 2013. There are now three generations of the devices, each one getting marginally better than the last. Thanks to 9to5Google, we believe another iteration in the line is coming soon, and this one could sport its own remote.
Up until now, there has been no need for Chromecast devices to come with a remote. Google has designed the devices as simple dongles to which users cast media from their mobile devices. 9to5Google reports a new Chromecast could be a little more sophisticated thanks to the inclusion of Android TV onboard, citing sources close to the matter.
The device is codenamed “sabrina,” and it could support 4K HDR content and tout the usual Chromecast Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. The Chromecast itself should look fairly similar to the current third-generation Chromecast device, featuring a soft, matte, round design adorned by the iconic “G” logo. And since it should run Android TV, it would support the expected streaming services like YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, and more.

The remote should look like “a cross between the Daydream View remote and an Apple TV remote.” What’s more, is that users should also be able to program the remote for use with their televisions, adding that little bit of extra functionality.
9to5Google doesn’t report any price or availability, but it suspects Google planned on releasing the device at Google I/O 2020 before the event’s cancelation amid fears surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. Since the company will no longer host the event as expected, we could see this device release any time in the coming months.
Though this information looks pretty reliable, remember, none of it is official. Until Google comes out and announces the device itself, be sure to take all of this information with a grain of salt.
