Rumors and leaks about the upcoming Google Pixel 4a keep pouring in. The latest information comes from XDA Developers, and it reveals the Pixel 4a could see a substantial bump in storage read/write speeds.

This information was spotted when Julio Lusson from the YouTube channel TecnoLike Plus provided XDA with a picture of the Pixel 4a’s bootloader. The photo revealed that the Google Pixel 4a could feature an improved UFS 2.1 flash storage solution in the form of the 64GB SK Hynix chip.

Though that may not sound exciting at first, the upgrade from a 64GB eMMC storage chip in the Pixel 3a should result in faster read, write, and file transfer speeds. Even more notably, this transition could very well improve the device’s performance by increasing battery efficiency and app loading/installation speeds.

The bootloader also reiterates a previous rumor we recently heard: the Pixel 4a should sport a cool 6GB of RAM. Though this isn’t necessarily new information, it solidifies the previous rumors that much more.

Now, we need to clarify that though this storage upgrade should offer noticeably snappier performance in some cases, TechnoLike Plus’ Pixel 4a is supposedly a pre-production model. There is no way to know if the final device will definitively see this upgraded component or not, and even if it does, we can’t guarantee noticeable improvements.

All-in-all, this should be a good indicator of what to expext from the upcoming Pixel 4a, but we still need to take this information with a grain of salt.
