Today’s the day! The day Sony offers up its PS5 reveal event, where PS5 lead system architect Mark Cerny will provide us with a deep dive into PS5’s system architecture.

And the good news is you can follow along live right here, with our PS5 reveal live blog, where we’ll be providing expert analysis and opinion on everything that’s announced.

We’re expecting to learn more about the PS5 specs – in response to Microsoft recently announcing a raft of information about the Xbox Series X – although there’s less of a chance the design of the console will be revealed. Plus, those hoping for an announcement of PS5 games that will be available at launch will likely be disappointed.

Looking back at previous PlayStation announcements, Sony tends to hold the design of its next generation console until later in the year – which means we may well be a few months off actually seeing the PS5 itself.

The PS5 announcement will start at 12pm EST (9am PST, 4pm GMT).

8:45 – Unfortunately, we’re not expecting Sony to reveal the PS5’s price during today’s livestream. During a quarterly earnings call last month, Sony’s chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki revealed the company still hasn’t nailed down the PS5 price.

It’s possible that Sony is waiting to see what Microsoft prices the Xbox Series X at but, either way, we think it may be a few months yet until we get an official PS5 price.

“What is not very clear or visible is because we are competing in the space, so it’s very difficult to discuss anything about the price at this point of time, and depending upon the price level, we may have to determine the promotion that we are going to deploy and how much costs we are prepared to pay,” Totoki explained.

However, we do know that Sony is aiming for “the best balance so that we will be profitable in the life, during the life of this product.”

While Sony may not have a price nailed down, there have been rumors about how much the PS5 could cost. One such rumor has suggested that the console will cost $499 in North America when it launches.

Naturally this should be treated with skepticism, but it would be welcome news if the console did launch at this price, as it’s only $100 more than the launch price of the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

8:25 – So what are we expecting in terms of games? Unfortunately, we don’t think Sony will make any game announcements during the reveal. However, to show off the hardware, we’re likely to see at least one game running on the PS5.

Previously the company showed off the PS5’s quick loading times using Marvel’s Spider-Man, so we may see a longer demo of this. While it’s not a new game, it suggests that Spider-Man will be a cross-gen title, playable on PS4 and PS5. Could other PS4 exclusives follow suit? We’re hoping so.

8:00 – Kotaku’s news editor, Jason Schreier, tweeted yesterday that he’s heard the PlayStation 5 boasts “the most exciting hardware in 20 years”. Schreier is a pretty reliable source when it comes to industry whisperings so we’re most excited than ever.

I don’t know how many teraflops (lol) the PS5 has, but this is the sentiment I’ve heard from several technical-minded folks. One told me it was “the most exciting hardware in 20 years.” Will be fascinating to see how it stacks up to the impressive Xbox Series X specs https://t.co/q7i0ET95YqMarch 17, 2020

7:36 – We’re pumped and ready to see what Sony’s Mark Cerny has to show us today.  Based on PlayStation’s tweet, it seems like this reveal event will mainly focus on the PS5’s specs, but we’re hoping we might get a sneak peek of the new console too.

Microsoft revealed the Xbox Series X’s full specs only a few days ago, so for Sony to reveal the PS5’s secs so soon after suggests the company is pretty confident with what its got to offer.

06:00 – We only learned of Sony’s PS5 announcement yesterday, when the firm posted a tweet revealing the details of the live stream event.
