Today, Apple finally unveiled its new budget-oriented offering in the smartphone industry: the iPhone SE (2020). It’s technically a follow-up to the original iPhone SE, which launched in 2016 alongside the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

The devices in the iPhone 11 line from last year all feature the “new” look of iPhone, with a notched display, no fingerprint sensor, multiple camera lenses, etc. However, the 2020 edition of the iPhone SE looks a lot more like the “old” iPhone design, last seen on the iPhone 8 from 2017.

On the back of the iPhone SE, you’ll see a single rear camera lens and the familiar Apple logo. On the front, you’ll find a display housed between two large top and bottom bezels, and the old school home button that doubles as a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Overall, it looks just like the iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6, and on and on, which isn’t too exciting.

However, there are some pretty notable upgrades inside the iPhone SE. First off, it’s based on the A13 Bionic processor, which is the same chipset you’ll find in the iPhone 11 series. In other words, this “budget” iPhone has Apple’s most powerful proprietary smartphone processor, which is analogous to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.

Elsewhere, the iPhone SE has a minimum of 64GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6, a dual SIM card, wireless charging, IP67 certification, and more. Check out our specs table below:

  iPhone SE (2020) Specs
Display 4.7-inch Retina HD
1334×750
Touch ID via Home Button
Processor A13 Bionic
Storage 64GB/128GB/256GB
Cameras Rear:
12MP f/1.8 aperture

Front:
7MP camera

IP Rating IP67
Software iOS 13
Colors Black, White and (PRODUCT)RED
Dimensions and weight 138.4 mm, 67.3 mm, 7.3 mm; 148 grams

The iPhone SE will also ship with iOS 13 and receive all the latest iOS updates just as the iPhone 11 series does.

Now for the most important bit: price. The 2020 version of the iPhone SE will start at $399, which is the same price as Google’s own budget offering, the Google Pixel 3a. That’s also the same price we expect the upcoming Google Pixel 4a to cost.

The iPhone SE will hit store shelves on April 24 with pre-orders opening up this Friday, April 17. It will come in black, white, and Product Red, as shown at the top of this article. It will also come with a free year of Apple TV Plus.
