Manhart Beefs Up New Toyota Supra to 444 Horsepower!

If the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is Clark Kent, then consider the Manhart Supra GR 450 Superman. The German tuning firm is the latest aftermarket outfit to take a stab at Toyota‘s BMW-built sports car. No surprise, given Manhart’s history of tinkering with BMW models.

As its name implies, the Manhart Supra GR 450’s most noteworthy feature is the 450 PS—that’s 444 horsepower—churned out by its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Credit Manhart’s ECU remap for finding more than 100 additional horses in the engine’s stable. At nearly $2,700, though, it’s not particularly cheap. That price may be even tougher to swallow given the stock Supra is already plenty powerful; we coaxed the car to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and through the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds. Its handling, on the other hand, needs some taming, which is why Manhart offers a set of KW coilovers to accompany the GR 450’s power boost. The almost $2,000 suspension kit both lowers the Supra and “increases the performance level in tight turns and on high-speed runs,” per Manhart.

Also available to complement the GR 450’s powertrain and suspension upgrades are a roughly $3,000 set of 20-inch wheels and tires, and approximately $900 worth of decals. There’s also a handful of exhaust options, including a $1,400 downpipe and $300 black exhaust tips.

Sure, the Manhart’s available exhaust system certainly sounds great (check out the video above) and its engine still makes notably more power than the stock Supra. Alas, the GR 450’s kryptonite might just be the high sum Manhart charges for the car’s pricey performance pieces—especially when the 2021 Supra makes 382 horses from its available six-cylinder engine (47 ponies more than the 2020 model) and includes handling improvements.
