We all know Ken Block by now. The former rally driver turned Hoonigan is responsible for some of the coolest videos to ever hit the automotive internet. His Gymkhana series shows off some incredible driving and genuine finesse from behind the wheel—but they also put some truly fantastic looking cars on display.
Block has (literally) drifted the tires off of everything from a rally-ready Ford Fiesta to a widebody 1960s Ford Mustang. Clearly, he’s a fan of the Blue Oval—or at least their sponsorship dollars—as the cars he raced in while he was with the Monster World Rally team were all Fords, too. Yesterday, he teased his upcoming creation, which looked a lot like a Fox Body Mustang with a heap of carbon fiber. Today, he’s revealed it, and that’s exactly what it is.

Sure enough, it’s a Fox Body, with a liftback and GT-style taillight louvers. And the Hoonifox has been given the full Hoonigan makeover, too. That means massive flares, exhaust dumping out the side, sweet five-spoke wheels that look a bit like deep-dish SVT Cobra wheels wearing massive Toyo R888R rubber, and an enormous hood scoop.
The designer is actually Ash Thorp, the guy responsible for the design of the new Batmobile. But the Hoonifox isn’t real—for now. This is a rendering, albeit an awesome one. And it’s a concept, for now. Ken Block and his team are deciding if, and how, to build it. They’d like to, but nothing is final yet.
If it gets built, it will for sure get all-wheel drive. But as for the power plant, that’s to be determined. They are considering an EcoBoost V-6, a naturally-aspirated V-8 built by Roush Yates, or even the electric powertrain from the Mustang Mach-E. But whatever the build looks like, if it does actually come together it will be a big fat-fendered love letter to the Fox Body itself. It’s clear that everyone involved has a deep and abiding love for the Fox Body. And while nothing’s official, yet, we get the feeling that the Hoonigan crew would love to do an ’80s-themed Gymkhana video starring the Hoonifox—if Block can build this thing.
That aside, the video’s worth a watch, since Thorp goes into great detail about the influences on the original Fox Body’s design as well as an intricate explanation of how his own design came together. And it looks great in each of the virtual liveries, as you can see here. We hope the Hoonifox becomes the next Gymkhana star.
