May is here, which means new content has arrived on Amazon Prime Video. This month is shaping up to be one of the best months for original Prime Video content we’ve seen in a long time. Leading the way is the promising sci-fi comedy Upload, followed by star-studded original movies Seberg and The Goldfinch. The critically acclaimed series Homecoming’s second season will also make its debut near the end of May, rounding out the excellent selection.
For a short time, Amazon Prime Video will also be hosting the SXSW film festival. The festival will be around for 10 days from April 27 to May 6, giving you access to features, documentaries and short films. You don’t even need a Prime account to enjoy them! Check out the full lineup here.

New on Amazon Prime Video in May 2020 — highlights
1. Upload (May 1)
In 2033, death is not the end. In this high-tech future, humans can upload themselves into an online afterlife, where six virtual “hotels” host the digitized humans. Nathan finds himself in the luxurious Lakeview after a self-driving car accident and a rash decision. Lakeview is no San Junipero, however. It comes with everything you’d expect from an afterlife run by tech companies, including in-app purchases. As Nathan adjusts to his new reality, he is guided by customer service “angel” Nora, and they soon form a bond.
Upload is a promising sci-fi comedy from Emmy-winning writer Greg Daniels, who has previously worked on hits like The Office and Parks and Recreations. It offers a refreshing comedic take on familiar science fiction concepts, and it’s likely to be one of the best new Amazon Prime Original series we’ve seen recently. Be sure to check it out on Prime Video when it comes out this May 1.
2. Seberg (May 15)
Inspired by the real story of French New Wave actress Jean Seberg, this biopic follows the titular movie star as she turns activist. At the height of the American civil rights movement of the late 60s, Seberg witnesses a blatant act of discrimination against a black airline passenger. Appalled by his treatment, she is determined to show solidarity and support the movement. However, this puts the FBI on her trail and Seberg soon becomes the target of relentless harassment and smear campaigns.
Seberg is an impactful movie that shines a light on a fascinating era of history, as well as the captivating Seberg herself. Kristen Steward gives a powerful performance as the Breathless actress, and although the film meanders at times, its cast and story more than make up for it. Don’t miss this new Amazon Prime original when it arrives on May 15.
