Are you a teenager? Do you like playing video games? Have you ever had an idea for a game that you wish existed? Well, now’s your chance to make it a reality with Google’s annual Change the Game event.

Most teens have played a lot of video games (amirite?!), but very few have ever made one before. Not to worry, though, as the Change the Game challenge doesn’t require any previous game-making experience. All you need is an idea and the ambition to make it happen, and Google will help you out with everything else.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic prevents a physical event of any kind this year, the Change the Game challenge will be all-virtual. Teens from the United States aged 13 through 18 can apply starting today (sorry, 19-year-olds, and teens from other countries). If your application is accepted, you’ll participate in four workshops with game-makers — including the truly awesome Girls Make Games collective — and work on realizing your idea.

After the Change the Game workshops are done, participants will have a working prototype of their game idea. They’ll also have permanent access to all the knowledge and resources covered in the workshops and even get a free Chromebook to continue working on the game on their own.

As stated earlier, applications are open now, and Google will review them on a rolling basis until July 31, 2020. The workshops begin in June and will happen throughout the summer, so there are plenty of opportunities for Google to hear your game idea.

If you or someone you know wants to apply to Change the Game, just click the button below! And, if you want to check out some of the games made last year, click here.
