Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Next Online Tournament Will Award Winners With Free Games

May 22, 2020

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a new online tournament kicking off on May 30, and players will be competing to win free games and DLC. The North American tournament, which is now open for registration, will run each weekend until June 21. Competition will play out across eight regions, and each week one winner from between two regions will be crowned and given a prize.

The top four players across the tournament will win download codes for Splatoon 2, Arms, and the second Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass, with one winner being picked each weekend. It’s not quite as grand as a traditional esports tournament prize, but it’s better than nothing.

The tournament will feature best-of-3 sets matches with items turned off. You can register now, but you must be a citizen of North America, Canada, or Mexico to enter. Registration will close on May 30 at 8AM PDT.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a sales juggernaut, but it is not known for having strong network infrastructure–in fact, it was removed from the EVO 2020 line-up after the fighting game tournament moved online.

Nintendo’s fighting game still has six DLC fighters to come–and the first one will be from Arms.

Starting June 1, GameSpot will be hosting Play For All–a celebration of all things gaming. Join us as we bring you the summer’s hottest news, previews, interviews, features, and videos, as well as raise money for COVID-19 relief efforts with the help of our friends from around the gaming world.
