Xbox Studio Double Fine Donates $12,000 To Charities That Fight Racism

The Xbox studio Double Fine Productions has announced a donation of $12,000 to a series of charities that fight racism in response to the murder of George Floyd.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Double Fine said it condemns police brutality and calls for the immediate demilitarization of police forces in America. “Our message is simple: black lives matter, and the systemic oppression, disenfranchisement, and murder of black people must end,” Double Fine said.

“This is a critical moment. There can be no justice for black people in America, or justice for any minorities, without the immediately demilitarization of police forces throughout the country,” the statement goes on. “It is not enough to simply know this. Something must be done–not tomorrow, but now. It is not sufficient to be ‘not racist.’ We must all be anti-racist.”

Double Fine, which made Brutal Legends and Psychonauts, said it encourages people to educate themselves on racism from American history and consider donating. Double Fine itself is donating its money to Black Lives Matter, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and Color of Change.

“Donations cannot bring back those claimed by police brutality and violence. Still, we encourage our players to join us in supporting these charities or similar ones based in your own communities,” Double Fine said. “A better world is possible, and it is right for us to demand it. These are trying times which can be made better by supporting each other.”
