During the early days of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, many events and conventions simply pushed back their dates into the late summer and early fall, hoping that the several months worth of lead time would be enough to ensure the safety of their attendees. Emerald City Comic Con, originally scheduled for March 12-15, was one such event. It was postponed at the last possible minute, moving to August 21-23.
Now, however, the show has decided to call off the 2020 convention entirely. In an email release, the ECCC team stated that “after many discussions with the convention center, exhibitors, artists and fans, we have made the excruciating yet necessary decision to cancel Emerald City Comic Con 2020 in Seattle.”
This means that anyone with an ECCC 2020 badge will be automatically refunded by June 29, with no action needed on the part of attendees. The email makes no mention of hotel bookings, so if you rescheduled your room for the convention, you may want to contact your hotel directly for a cancelation confirmation.
In the place of a physical convention, ECCC will be putting together a “digital event” in August to “support exhibitors and connect fans with as much content as possible.” No dates or specifics as to the nature of the event have been given yet, but the email recommends fans keep an eye on ECCC’s social channels for more information as it becomes available.
ECCC 2021 will be held in Seattle March 4-7.
