T-Mobile shuts down Sprint 5G network

With T-Mobile’s acquisition of Sprint in full swing, it’s time for some big changes. Following a test run in New York, T-Mobile has now completely shut down the Sprint 5G network across the United States.

That means many Sprint 5G phones out in the wild will no longer see 5G speeds. The exceptions to this are the Samsung Galaxy S20, LG V60 ThinQ, and OnePlus 8 which have band support for T-Mobile’s 5G network.

The Sprint 5G network was live in parts of Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Kansas City, and Miami. T-Mobile is taking the 2.5GHz spectrum Sprint owned and re-deploying it and optimizing it for its own network. However, all Sprint phones (aside from the ones mentioned previously) still won’t work on the network after this change happens.

Instead, T-Mobile is offering a series of deals for Sprint customers to trade in their 5G phones for a different model that will work properly on T-Mobile. You can find all the info you need on that here.
