Given the newness of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8, its limited quantities, and general lack of second-hand examples, those looking to heavily modify a C8 don’t have that many options. Why pay full price for a factory fresh example when you’re just going to cut it up, juice the engine, and more? This 2020 C8 Corvette might be just the ticket for you, if you’re looking for something both affordable and unlikely to spill tears from a Vette fan dismayed to see you significantly alter it. Or, hey, maybe you’re that Vette fanatic, and you’d like to save this C8 from the crusher or a wayward modifier and restore it back to its original glory.
Either way, this C8 suffered some misfortune in its brief life so far. It quite literally was dropped as a baby. The specifics are not immediately verifiable, but someone claiming to be the owner on Instagram and Facebook says the vehicle was improperly lifted by mechanics at a Chevy dealership in Florida. The Corvette incurred a lot of damage falling off the lift, as you can see in the photos from Copart, an online vehicle auction and parts company.
There’s serious damage to several body panels, but Copart claims the vehicle still runs and drives. And from the limited set of pictures, the interior also look like it’s in good shape. A massive gouge spanning the front of the rear passenger fender and extending into the passenger door is the most glaring body issue, it seems, but the damage around the passenger headlight is also serious. The driver’s side headlight is sitting on the ground in front of the car. It also appears one of the C8’s numerous coolers is sitting in the trunk, so that might need attention before actually driving the C8 more than a few feet onto a flatbed.
Can this Corvette be saved? Almost certainly. And whether it is restored or heavily modified us up to the new owner. This isn’t the first C8 to end up at a junkyard auction, and it won’t be the last, but for now it might be the best bet for someone looking for a C8 project, provided it goes for cheap and the repairs don’t cost too much.
