I think the fact that they have to keep “addressing” and “explaining” after every presentation shows there is a problem here. You don’t see Nintendo and Sony coming out and explaining why things were the way they were after a presentation, or explaining why there’s a reason you should buy their platform right after a presentation that should have given you that reason in the first place.
Funny thing is i’m beginning to think this is their plan. It’s very subversive, but i think they’re actually TRYING to switch to just gamepass and no longer in the hardware game. They limit production while the competition doubles it, and while the general consensus about these presentations is that they aren’t making people want to buy a series x. It IS however making gamepass look more appealing. Rewatching that last presentation with that in mind and it really comes off as a giant Gamepass advert than a series x thing.
Add to that statements like “we’re not worried about hardware sales” and “we’re competing more with netflix and amazon than playstation and Nintendo” and it really does start to look that way to me.
