Halo Infinite Multiplayer Teased By Phil Spencer

Microsoft has finally shown off Halo Infinite‘s campaign, but we haven’t seen any multiplayer footage yet. Microsoft will showcase the multiplayer “soon,” but ahead of that, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has offered a tease for what to expect.

He told iJustine that that Halo Infinite will build off the multiplayer element of Halo 5: Guardians, which was generally well-received by fans. He also teased that 343’s developers have pushed themselves with new “technical challenges” for multiplayer, but Spencer did not elaborate on this. The executive also confirmed that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer element was developed alongside professional Halo players in an effort to fine-tune the experience.

“The multiplayer in Halo Infinite I think is going to be special when we talk about it,” Spencer said. “We know, for some many people, Halo CE started with us lugging our Xboxes around, plugging them in together and playing console multiplayer, for many of us, for the first time. So I’m excited for what we’ll get to see and what we’ll get to show. I think the team is building on what they did with Halo 5, and the multiplayer in Halo 5 was received very well.”

“So it’s cool to see the team continue to iterate on things that the community loves,” he added. “Esport players have been heavily involved in what we’re doing [with Halo Infinite] because we know that’s a strong part of the community; the professional players. And there are some technical challenges the team has set for themselves on multiplayer that I’m really encouraged to talk about when we get there. So, soon! We will be able to talk about Halo Infinite multiplayer soon.”

Two of the new pieces of equipment in Halo Infinite, the Grappleshot and the Drop Wall, will also be featured in multiplayer, though they will be available as pick-ups instead of constant abilities.

Halo 5’s standard multiplayer was called Arena, and it was regarded as a positive step forward after the problems with Halo 4‘s multiplayer. Halo 5 also introduced a large-scale, MOBA-style mode called Warzone that sees teams of 12 players fighting against AI enemies and each other.

Halo is known for its multiplayer, so it will be interesting to see how Halo Infinite pushing things forward when the time comes. Microsoft has not announced a future Xbox show or other event to showcase the multiplayer, but that should happen relatively soon, as Halo Infinite is due to release this holiday as a launch title for the Xbox Series X.

The game will also come to the standard Xbox One as well as PC. For lots more, check out GameSpot’s video overview above that covers everything you need to know about Halo Infinite.
