Poll: Would you prefer one great rear lens or a versatile triple-lens setup?

A picture of the Samsung galaxy s20 plus review vs google pixel 4 xl.

Phones with more than one rear camera sensor are nothing new. The way each smartphone manufacturer implements those camera sensors is what keeps things interesting.

Three, four, sometimes even five camera sensors offer versatility that we never expected would make its way to smartphones. Some phones add ultra wide-angle lenses, some add macro lenses, some add long-range periscope lenses. That’s great news for those of us who look for versatile camera phones.

However, some companies would rather focus on the number of cameras in their smartphones instead of improving overall photo quality. Google is a good example here, which has stuck with a single rear camera on its smartphones until the Pixel 4 line.

I’d wager many people would prefer the look of the Pixel 4a’s photos over, say, the Galaxy S20’s cameras, though the Galaxy S20 is a much more versatile camera phone overall.

If you could choose one camera setup for your next smartphone, which would you pick: a single rear camera lens that takes stunning photos? Or a triple camera setup that’s more versatile but shoots slightly poorer-quality photos?

Poll: Would you prefer one great, less-versatile rear camera or a worse triple-lens setup that’s more versatile?
