  • Google’s latest Pixel Buds are finally available in the four promised colors.
  • If black and white are too plain, you can also spring for mint and orange.
  • They cost $180 regardless of the color you pick.

You no longer have to settle for a plain color if you want Google’s current-generation Pixel Buds.

The Android-friendly true wireless earbuds are now available in all four promised colors through retailers like the Google Store and Best Buy. On top of ‘safe’ hues like Almost Black and Clearly White, you can also choose the more audacious Oh So Orange and Quite Mint.

These shades conspicuously match newer Google devices like the Pixel 4 and Nest Mini, although you’re certainly not obliged to coordinate with your phone or smart speaker. The Pixel Buds are priced at $180 regardless of the color you buy.

The Pixel Buds are, unsurprisingly, Google’s direct answer to Apple’s AirPods. They’re easy to set up on Android devices, sound good for the money, and boast workout-ready water resistance. They support Google tricks like real-time translation, too, and they’ll soon have features like sound-specific attention alerts. If you want Apple-like convenience on Android, these are the buds for you.

They’re not perfect, however. They can become uncomfortable after extended periods depending on your ears, and they don’t support high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs like aptX. You might also want to look at alternatives if you crave bass for dance music or hip-hop, and certain drum sounds can overwhelm vocals in the right (or rather, wrong) circumstances.

Like AirPods, the Pixel Buds are more for casual listening than premium audio or the bass-heavy punch you get from Beats and Jabra. They do their job well — it’s just a question of whether or not you value ease of use and Google intelligence enough to forgive a few audio quality missteps.

The Google Pixel Buds 2 cut the cord of the original Pixel Buds and go head-to-head with Apple’s AirPods. You can use them to access Google Assistant just by saying “Hey Google,” with no need to touch the buds at all. At an MSRP of $179, the Pixel Buds 2 are cheaper than AirPods Pro.
