  • The Amazfit Band 5 is now official.
  • The wearable packs Amazon Alexa support with a blood oxygen monitor, too.
  • It will be available in the US later this month.

Back in July, we gained word of a new Amazfit wearable in hitting the US possibly as an upgraded Mi Band 5. Now, the newly launched Amazfit Band 5 fits that profile.

Spotted by Wearable, the Band 5 looks like its Xiaomi contemporary, packing an elongated AMOLED screen and fastens to a user’s arm using a silicon strap. The wearable weighs in around 12g.

While they may look similar, the Band 5 packs a beefier spec sheet compared to the Mi Band 5. Amazon Alexa support makes an appearance, but there’s no mention of a speaker on the band itself to receive verbal replies. Still, the smart assistant should give users a fair amount of control over other Alexa-powered devices in their homes.

Health tracking specs are headlined by a blood oxygen saturation monitor, a sensor that’s becoming more prominent on wearables. Also included is an optical heart rate monitor and sleep tracking system. When you’re not snoozing the Band 5 also tracks steps, distance, and calories. Menstrual cycle tracking is also included. For swimmers, the Band 5 features 5ATM water resistance and adds swim tracking. That joins support for 10 other sport tracking programs.

Amazfit quotes a battery life of around two weeks, which should be more than enough for those who forget to frequently charge their wearables.

The Amazfit Band 5 is a pretty good deal if you’re shopping for a wearable with blood oxygen monitoring tech below $100. The Fitbit Charge 4, an excellent smartwatch in its own right, will cost users some $100 more. That’s a pretty steep premium for those shopping for a budget fitness buddy.

As for price and availability, you’ll need to wait a bit longer to grab one. The Amazfit Band 5 is available for pre-order right now on Amazon for $50. Color options included are black and orange. The wearable will begin shipping on September 30.
