  • Google has introduced Wi-Fi Sync on Chrome OS to save your passwords across Chromebooks.
  • There’s also a simpler settings search to find the option you’re looking for.
  • It’s also easier to control video recording and lower your mic output.

Google just made life easier if you hate typing Wi-Fi passwords on your Chromebook. The internet giant is rolling out a Chrome OS update that will streamline a few common tasks, including signing in to your local wireless network.

A new Wi-Fi Sync feature will save passwords to your Google account, saving you from having to reenter a login for the same network on another Chromebook. This will be most helpful if you live in a home with multiple Chromebooks, but it could also be handy if you’re upgrading to a new laptop and don’t want to hunt down your credentials just to get online.

It should be easier to find settings, too. The update improves the search bar in Chrome OS settings to help you find both matching and related settings. You’ll “soon” get to search through settings in the Launcher as well.

The upgrade also acknowledges the work-from-home reality of the pandemic with improvements for video calling and recording. The Quick Settings now include a mic output slider to help you tone things down if you’re drowning out video chats. The Camera app, meanwhile, makes it easy to pause and resume recording as well as capture stills. It should be that much easier to create a tutorial or simply make a goofy video for your friends.

This Chrome OS update should be available now. It’s not a complete revamp, but it could be vital at a time when Chromebooks can be vital for school and work. Ideally, you’ll spend less time setting up and more time getting tasks done.
