  • Zhiyun just unveiled its newest smartphone gimbal, the Zhiyun Smooth XS.
  • As its name implies, it’s a smaller version of the Smooth X launched earlier this year.
  • With a low price, the Smooth XS could be a good choice for influencers and social media content creators.

Today, Chinese company Zhiyun took the wraps off its latest smartphone gimbal: the Smooth XS. The tiny gimbal is geared directly towards Gen-Z social media darlings with its fun colors, easy-to-use interface, and low price.

With a built-in telescopic pole as well as a detachable tripod base, the Smooth XS is kind of like a selfie stick on steroids. It only has two-axis stabilization, though, so a professional gimbal this is not. Still, it would be a nice alternative for folks who want something a little more basic than the DJI OM 4, for example.

The marketing and branding for the Smooth XS make it very clear that this is not a gimbal for professionals. You can tell that pretty much immediately from the four color options for the gimbal: Ivory White, Pearly Pink, Navy Blue, and Shining Yellow.

Instead, the Smooth XS is designed to appeal to young people who want a stabilizer, a selfie stick, a tripod, and a Bluetooth controller all-in-one to create their next Instagram masterpiece.

The Zhiyun Smooth X, which launched earlier this year, has a similar design and similar capabilities. However, the Smooth XS appears to be smaller, which is important for influencers, especially travel-based bloggers.

The key features of the gimbal, though, are related to its companion app. The Zy Cami app allows you to perform gestures to start/stop recording or take a picture. For example, you could have the gimbal in a selfie stick mode and then simply wave at the camera to start recording.

Using Zy Cami, you can also edit your footage into a video that’s ready to go straight to Instagram.

Stay tuned for a full review of the Zhiyun Smooth XS!

Like a selfie stick on steroids, the Zhiyun Smooth XS offers two-axis stabilization, a tripod mount, and a built-in telescopic pole. It’s the perfect machine for Instagrammers.
