Nothing changed, people just completely ignored what was said and shown on the diagram Cerny had on display.
It was shown clearly that the vast majority of PS4 games would be backwards compatible and either run in base PS4 mode, if there was a PS4 Pro patch it would run in max settings for that mode, and they were retooling the top 100 PS4 games to run natively on the console. It was just poor media, fans, and fanboys ignoring this.
