Not to combat either side, but GamePass is also available for PC and Andorid devices which has nothing to do with Xbox sales. I think the Series will do better than the Xbox One, but ultimately that depends on if the Series S takes off due to its price, and if console games are willing to go the subscription service route for gaming in the long run.
In the here and now it’s a great deal, but you look at other services and price increases are inevitable, and will we be going a more mobile-like GaaS as a result, since software and add-ons are the largest money makers in gaming.
At this point, I think it’s inevitable and Sony will have to follow suit next-gen or make PSNow more comparable because core gamers are the minority even if we are the vocal majority, and for the tens of millions of casual gamers $10/mo. for just over 200 games and access to their favorite EA games is a win, even if you only like 10% of those games that still 20+ games.
This look like a publisher vs service war, where publishers are pushing for $70 games (aka the PlayStation Alliance, which seems to be Sony, Activision, Epic, and JP studios) vs. The GaaS route which is basically MicroSoft buying up whatever studios and at this point entire parent companies it can to make Services the winner.
It’s the new-gen format war.
