Since Ken Kutaragi is no longer at Sony, Nintendo and Sony recreate the alliance they were going to have in the beginning that created PlayStation in the first place. Cerny waltzes on over to Nintendo and makes a deal. Nintendo keeps their hybrid, on the go system and IPs. But releases new IPs or remakes and remasters of Metroid Prime with added VR mode option, Super Mario 64 with VR mode that follows Astrobot in the “I feel like a kids again feel”, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart with full VR mode option like the arcade, etc. VR games would be compatible with PSVR on PS5 but more for PSVR 2 release. Nintendo wouldn’t even have to create a VR headset. Sony would with their input on controls.
Basically, Nintendo forgoes making a next gen system. They create an alliance with Sony and use PS5 as their next system to publish games on in Japan and worldwide. Nintendo gets 80/20 in profits on the games and royalties on PlayStation sales as their games would increase hardware sales everywhere.
THAT, would BLOW UP the internet for all time. Nothing would come close to the alliance without anyone ever being purchased. And the screaming and yelling of hypocrisy would come from all corners of the Earth that Sony was creating a monopoly with Nintendo.
