Animal Crossing: Catch These Bugs And Fish In New Horizons Before October

September 28, 2020

October is upon us, which means a new assortment of bugs, fish, and sea creatures will soon begin appearing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That also means that certain species will be leaving your island in only a couple of days, making this your last chance to catch them in the game for a little while.

Now that fall has begun in Northern Hemisphere islands, many of the remaining summer bugs and fish will be heading into hibernation come October. By contrast, only a handful of critters are leaving Southern Hemisphere islands next month, but you’ll still want to catch them while you can to fill out your encyclopedia. You can see all the bugs, fish, and sea creatures that are leaving Animal Crossing: New Horizons this week, on September 30, below.

If you have a Northern Hemisphere island, this week marks your last chance to catch a number of summer fish, including sharks. Not only are these normally hard to come by, as they only appear in the ocean during the summer months, they also fetch a pretty penny at Nook’s Cranny, making them a great way to earn money. A variety of different river and pond fish are leaving at the end of this month as well, including some valuable catches like the dorado, arowana, and arapaima.

A number of bugs are leaving Northern Hemisphere islands this week as well, most notably various butterflies. Some of these, like the Queen Alexandra’s birdwing and agrias butterfly, are worth a few thousand bells apiece, so you’ll want to catch them while you can. While most beetles have since gone into hibernation, the rainbow stag and goliath beetle have still been appearing on trees this month, but they’ll likewise leave the game come October.

Sea Creatures

Sea Creature Time Price

Unlike fish, you’ll need to dive to catch sea creatures, which makes them a bit more of a hassle to find. If you haven’t taken a dip in the ocean in a while, however, you’ll want to do so before September ends, as the rare and valuable gigas giant clam is leaving the game come October. It sells for a whopping 15,000 bells and won’t be back until May, so don’t miss your chance to catch one.

Southern Hemisphere

Fish

Fish Location Time Price
Bitterling River, 1 All day 900
Football Fish Sea, 4 4 PM – 9 AM 2,500
Sea Butterfly Sea, 1 All day 1,000
Stringfish River (clifftop), 5 4 PM – 9 AM 15,000
Sturgeon River (mouth), 6 All day 10,000
Yellow Perch River, 3 All day 300

In contrast to Northern Hemisphere islands, only a few fish are leaving the game for Southern Hemisphere players in October. These include the rare–and pricey–stringfish and sturgeon. Both appear in specific parts of the river; the former can be found in the clifftop, while the latter spawns in the mouth of the river near the ocean.

Bugs

Bug Location Time Price
Emperor Butterfly Flying near flowers 5 PM – 8 AM 4,000

Only one bug is leaving Southern Hemisphere islands come October, but it’s a pretty valuable one: the emperor butterfly. It sells for 4,000 bells at Nook’s Cranny and is a pretty common sight around flowers, so catch and sell while you can.

Sea Creatures

Sea Creature Location Time
Red King Crab All day 8,000

Likewise, only one sea creature is leaving Southern Hemisphere islands: the red king crab. It appears in the ocean all day and will net you 8,000 bells at Nook’s Cranny.
