  • The DJI Pocket 2 is official! It’s the follow-up to 2018’s DJI Osmo Pocket.
  • The Pocket 2 is an all-in-one three-axis gimbal camera that quite literally fits in your pocket.
  • There are a few notable upgrades for the Pocket 2 as compared to the original, but the price stays the same.

Today, DJI formally took the wraps off its latest consumer product: the DJI Pocket 2. Although it appears DJI is abandoning the Osmo branding for good, this is officially the follow-up to the DJI Osmo Pocket from 2018.

The Pocket 2 keeps the same general form factor as the Osmo Pocket. However, DJI upped the ante when it comes to both video and audio quality and is offering a slew of accessories for the Pocket 2 that will surely make vloggers happy.

The DJI Pocket 2 will start at $349, the same price as the 2018 version. There will also be a “Creator Combo” for $499 that will come with a whole bunch of useful accessories.

If you already own an Osmo Pocket, you likely won’t be too blown away by what this new version can do. It still captures 4K video with three-axis stabilization. It’s still incredibly small, still connects to your smartphone through the DJI Mimo app, and still allows you to quickly share footage to your social media channels.

However, that doesn’t mean DJI didn’t bring in some upgrades. Most notably, the image sensor in the DJI Pocket 2 is slightly larger at 1/1.7″, allowing it to capture better footage, especially when there’s less light available. It will also (eventually, after a software update) have HDR video capturing. Probably the biggest boon for creators, though, is the addition of both optical and digital zoom. If you’re recording in 1080p, you can get 4x lossless zoom. If you go up to 2.7K or 4K recording, you’ll rely on 3x and 2x digital zoom respectively.

One of the biggest complaints about the Osmo Pocket was its poor audio quality. DJI addressed those concerns, too, by adding a new quad-microphone system that’s strategically designed to work even when you are holding the Pocket 2. It also has directional audio, which will allow it to intelligently “focus” on the audio coming from your subject.

We will have plenty to say about these upgrades when we finish our full review of the Pocket 2. Stay tuned for that!

If you’d like to buy the DJI Pocket 2, it will be available starting November 1 from the company’s website. It will likely be on Amazon and other third-party sites soon after.
