Porsche Taycan Electric Sedan Adds Apple Podcast Integration

Apple CarPlay integration came late to Porsche‘s vehicles relative to other brands, and it seems the American technology company and German sports car manufacturer are making up for the lost time. The latest tie-in between the two brands comes to the Porsche Taycan electric sedan, which now offers Apple Podcast integration, as well as the ability to display lyrics to Apple Music-sourced songs on its available passenger-side display screen—a boon for fans of in-car karaoke.

The setup works in conjunction with the Apple accounts of Taycan drivers. By signing into their personal Apple ID from the Taycan’s display, drivers can access their digital library of podcasts and pick up listening to one exactly where they last left off.

Frankly, it’s a bit of an answer to a question no one asked, as Apple CarPlay integration means Taycan drivers need only connect their iPhone to the car to access their podcast library anyway. That said, people can lose their iPhones or leave them at home or at work and this new native integration ensures those in the driver’s seat can still listen to their favorite podcasts with or without their device.

Alas, the individual in the Taycan’s driver’s seat will find little use for Apple Music’s lyric integration. That’s because the function works exclusively with the available 10.9-inch passenger-side display screen.

The $1,130 option certainly adds a hefty sum to the Taycan’s bill, but it’s unlikely this will make or break the purchase of the EV sports sedan. Whether buyers tick the box for the additional screen, however, may now depend on the vocal skills of their potential front-seat passengers.
