Here’s What’s Inside The PS5 DualSense Controller

As the first PlayStation controller to move away from the DualShock branding, it remains to be seen how much improvement the PS5’s DualSense will offer on the previous generation. Now, YouTuber Austin Evans has performed a mini DualSense teardown to have a look at just how much tech is crammed inside the new controller.

Evans’ video starts with a pretty classic unboxing and a small playtest with the controller, but the most interesting part comes near the end of the video where they break the case open (with some difficulty) to have a look at the insides.

The first thing to note is that the controller shell is incredibly difficult to open, with Evans eventually breaking the case in the process of prying it open. Unsurprisingly the controller, like most modern tech, is not designed for users to easily be able to repair or tinker with on their own.

Inside, Evans notes that the controller is home to some pretty meaty rumble motors, as well as a fairly major mechanism beneath the shoulder triggers. He also shows off the 1560mA battery, noting that it would technically be the easiest component for users to replace themselves for a repair.

Interestingly, Evans also discovers two mics inside the controller. While we’ve known for some time that the DualSense will be the first PlayStation controller with a built-in mic, Evans has found one on the front of the controller, and a second mic at the back, as well as the speaker sitting just below the controller’s touchpad.

The DualSense controller is launching alongside the PS5 on November 12, so you’ll have a chance to get hands on with one of them yourself very soon. The controllers will retail for $70 on their own, with pre-orders available now.
