There’s a new Google app that lets users earn money for completing tasks on their smartphones. Dubbed Task Mate (h/t 9to5Google), the app is currently available in India and Kenya only.
Like Google Opinion Rewards that gives users Play Store credit for completing surveys, Task Mate will also remunerate users for undertaking tasks for businesses. The chief difference is that actual currency will be rewarded to a user via a digital payments platform, not merely app store credits.
As for the tasks on offer, you won’t have to help scrub dishes in a restaurant or clean up the local park. Many can be completed at home from a smartphone, while others require a little more adventure. Some examples listed by Google include “record spoken sentences,” “take photos of shopfronts,” or “transcribe sentences.”
Remuneration is seemingly based on the simplicity of the task. A bundle of 10 transcribing tasks will garner $0.50. Recording 10 spoken sentences earns $0.20. It’s unclear just how many of these you can complete in a given time frame. But when a user is happy with their balance, they can cash out.
Task Mate seemingly puts accuracy above speed and quantity, though, so it would be difficult to game the system.
“You get tasks based on your performance, which includes factors such as your accuracy and whether you have previously violated any of our policies,” reads the app’s support page. “When your performance increases or pending tasks are reviewed, you get new tasks. When a requester needs more work done and adds them to the platform, you should find more tasks.” Some tasks also require specific “skill sets.”
Task Mate remains in Early Access on the Play Store for now. It’s only available by invitation, too, and it’s unclear when the app will roll out to other markets. In the meantime, there are plenty of Android apps that let users earn cash. Peruse our top picks below.
