Most of you like Vivo’s new OriginOS skin

Vivo OriginOS official 1

Vivo’s FunTouch OS was arguably the worst Android skin among major manufacturers. Between the iOS-inspired aesthetics and the needless overhaul of stock elements, it’s easy to understand why it had many critics.

Fortunately, Vivo revealed a new Android skin dubbed OriginOS last week, going for a different look compared to its prior effort while adding a few neat features too. This made us wonder what you lot thought of the new Android overlay.

What do you think of Vivo’s OriginOS?

Results

We posted the poll on November 19 2020, and it accrued 1,511 votes in that time. Almost two thirds (64.7%) of all respondents voted “yay” in favor of the new Android skin. So clearly it seems like Vivo has made a step in the right direction with OriginOS.

The new skin adds a unique homescreen (at least compared to other Android skins), Live Tile-style alerts, and some neat wallpaper ideas. So we can see why people might like it.

Just over 35% of polled readers responded negatively to the new Android skin though, and it seems like these readers were very vocal in their distaste. In fact, many comments accused OriginOS of being an iOS clone.

Vivo confirmed to Android Authority that the new skin is restricted to China right now. For what it’s worth, the brand recently launched its phones in Europe, and these devices pack a localized version of FunTouch OS that’s thankfully more in line with stock Android. So for better or worse, you likely won’t be able to try out OriginOS anytime soon.

Comments

  • Dushu VacadePlus: So they went ahead and copied Apple’s iOS widgets. Very original.
  • Chu Zhen Mok: Once again, this is so similar to iOS.
  • Mako: Nobody needed another iOS clone
  • Demongornot: Nova Launcher and other custom launcher > Any OEM skin/launcher
  • Wongwatt: Wow, what a hideous mess. I really hope that’s just for China because the light touch version on the X51 is a much better idea in the West.
Hopefully they will add wireless charging (and keep the lighter skin) to the X61, that might just get me on board with Vivo
  • Andrew Zuo: EA is making an OS now?

Thank you for voting in this poll and for leaving comments! What do you think of OriginOS and these results? Let us know in the comments section!
