  • Frequent leaker Evan Blass just revealed what is allegedly the Motorola Nio.
  • Nio is likely the codename for the previously-announced G-series device with an 800-series processor.
  • The image shows a phone with two display cutouts housing a dual-lens selfie camera.

Earlier this week, Motorola surprised us by announcing a new G-series phone is on the way with a Qualcomm 800-series processor under the hood. The G-series usually sees 600- and 700-series processors, which keeps them firmly in the mid-range. An 800-series processor, though, would make it more akin to a flagship.

Today, frequent-leaker Evan Blass posted an image of a phone that he claims is this G-series device. Blass says the codename is Motorola Nio. The image shows a device with two display cutouts in the upper left which house two selfie camera lenses.

Evan Blass has a shining reputation when it comes to smartphone leaks. That being said, we can’t help but notice that this image looks a bit Photoshopped. It might not be, but you should approach this leak with scrutiny (as you should every leak, in general).

If we accept that this is the Motorola Nio — and also accept that it is the G-series device revealed by Motorola earlier — then this could be the company’s next flagship. However, do keep in mind that Motorola didn’t promise that this phone has the new Snapdragon 888. All it said was that a future G-series device would have an 800-series chipset. That could mean a Snapdragon 865 or even a Snapdragon 855. We’ll need to wait and see how this pans out.
