A lightweight, feature-filled laptop for under $900

  • Nokia has launched its first branded laptop in India.
  • Dubbed the Nokia PureBook X14, the ultrabook focuses on portability and multimedia performance.
  • It will be available later this month for ~$816.

Nokia isn’t a brand name that’s normally associated with PCs, but that’s seemingly set to change. Flipkart has now debuted the first Nokia-branded laptop in the form of the PureBook X14.

Aesthetically, it’s not an exciting debut. The all-black machine puts practicality first, so users will have to settle for a fairly chunky bottom bezel. The PureBook X14 supports a 14-inch IPS 1080p display with Dolby Vision. For audio lovers, there’s also Dolby Atmos support for headphones.

The PureBook’s big trump card is its weight or lack thereof. It tips the scales at 1.1 kilograms, making it one of the more travel-friendly 14-inch laptops available.

Internally, the Nokia Purebook X14 is powered by a 10th generation Intel Core i5 chipset with 8GB of DDR4-2666 RAM and 512GB of NVMe-based SSD storage. Nokia does mention the CPU can turbo-boost up to 4.2GHz suggesting it’s the i5-10210U in use here. It’s unclear if there’ll be any other chip options available in the future.

Gaming isn’t a major focus, so there’s no dedicated GPU from Nvidia or AMD. Users will have to make do with the onboard UHD 620 graphics chip which should be just fine for older titles or lighter esports games.

For productivity fiends, the Nokia PureBook X14 also boasts a backlit keyboard. I/O includes two USB 3.1 ports, a single USB 2.0 port, and a single USB-C 3.1 port. HDMI, an RJ45 network jack, and a 3.5mm headphone jack complete the lineup.

Finally, Flipkart and Nokia quote a battery life of up to eight hours from its 46.7 WHr battery and bundles a 65W charger with the package.

Nokia PureBook X14 price in India

As for the price, the laptop will be available to preorder on Flipkart from 18 December at a special launch price of Rs 59,990 (~$816). This does make it an attractive option if weight-watching is a priority, but it leaves it vulnerable to its competition. For instance, if weight isn’t a worry, fellow smartphone maker Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook 14 retails for under Rs 50,000 (~$680) in India and sports a dedicated GPU.

Flipkart’s Nokia PureBook X14 listing also suggests Rs 90,000 (~$1,224) could be what you have to pay at a later date making it a far less viable choice.
