Bose’s earbuds keep you safe and don’t seal to the ear

  • The Bose Sport Open Earbuds leave your ear canal completely open, so you can hear your surroundings at all times.
  • The earbuds have an IPX4 rating and support Bluetooth 5.1.
  • They’re available now for $199.95.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds take a sharp turn from the company’s typical noise-cancelling offerings. These open-type earphones sit gently atop the ridge of your ear and let outside noise in. Some listeners may find this counterintuitive, but being aware of your surroundings is absolutely imperative for outdoor athletes.

These true wireless earbuds don’t use bone conduction technology like we’ve seen from the popular audio company Aftershokz. Instead, the drivers emit sound directly out of the earbuds, and the waves are then funneled into your ear canal. Bose promises that audio playback will only be heard by the listener, even when volume outputs are loud.

These open-fit earbuds are water-resistant, as indicated by the IPX4 rating. Each ear hook secures the earpiece in place so that it hugs the back of your ear. Just like the Bose Sport Earbuds and Bose QuietComfort Earbuds, the Sport Open Earbuds use Bluetooth 5.1 firmware. Each earbud houses a single button for playback control and voice assistant access. You can also control the headset from the Bose Music app.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds are available for pre-order in the US and retail for $199.95. Bose will begin shipping the headset mid-January, and black is currently the only color option.
