SpongeBob Comes To Madden 21 In A Very Weird But Cool Collaboration

After teasing the collaboration, EA Sports and Nickelodeon have officially announced a partnership to bring SpongeBob to Madden NFL 21.

The Nickelodeon x Madden event, as it’s called, adds a variety of SpongeBob-themed content to Madden NFL 21’s celebrated new mode, The Yard. This content includes three new game modes that ask the question, “What if SpongeBob and his pals made the rules?” as well as a new location, SpongeBob Reef-Top, and SpongeBob-inspired gear for you to collect.

Here’s a rundown of everything:

New Modes:

The new SpongeBob-inspired modes for Madden 21 include The Flying Dutchman’s Ghostly Grab (lets you jump higher to make better catches), Sandy’s Rock Arm Rally (players can throw passes beyond 80 yards), and The Goo Lagoon Bowl (the goo makes you slower).

New Location: Reef-Top

All of the new modes are playable at a new venue, Reef-Top. As you can see in the images below, this arena is set in an underwater city featuring famous SpongeBob venues like the Krusty Krab and the homes of SpongeBob and Squidward. A giant SpongeBob balloon flies in the distance, while a Nickelodeon blimp can also be seen overhead.

The field itself is decked out with special graphics to reflect SpongeBob’s involvement. You can click through the image gallery below to get a closer look at all of this.

New Gear

In addition to the new venue and modes, EA and Nickelodeon are bringing SpongeBob-themed gear to The Yard for you to collect. As you can see in the image below, this gear includes a variety of yellow and blue wares to deck out your player, including gloves, shorts, an arm sleeve, and more.

New Trailer

To help you get an idea for what this all looks like in Madden 21, EA released a sizzle reel trailer showing off the new venue, the modes, and the exclusive gear you can collect. Take a look:

This partnership is not completely out of the blue, as Nickelodeon is set to broadcast an NFL playoff game this weekend. The broadcast will feature special graphics and overlays themed around SpongeBob and Nickelodeon in general.

If you’re looking for a more serious Madden 21 update, EA Sports just patched the professional football game again to help make CPU teams better at drafting, among other things.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
