Nvidia Shield TV Is Now Compatible With Xbox Series X/S And PS5 Controllers

Gaming on the Nvidia Shield TV streaming device has just gotten a boost, with the announcement that Xbox Series X/S and PS5 controllers would be able to be paired as of update 8.2.2, as reported by TalkAndroid. The new generation controllers can be paired via Bluetooth in a quick process.

While the Nvidia Shield TV is still a bit of a niche device versus cheaper streamers like Roku and Fire TV, the new update will be good news for the gamers who make use of the device to stream GeForce Now, Nvidia’s GameStream, or Steam Link via its app.

To pair the controllers, start Bluetooth pairing on the Shield and enter pairing mode on the controller. For PS5’s DualSense this can be done by holding the PlayStation button and share/clip button until the light turns blue, for Xbox Series X/S, hold the pairing button until the Xbox button blinks.

While both the new consoles are still suffering from supply issues, making it less likely for Shield owners to also own the new controllers, the update is important future-proofing for the Shield TV, and a sign that Nvidia is committed to updates for the streaming device. The latest update also added new TV apps Discovery+ and Noggin, as well as support for Control4 home automation.
