You are mostly split about Nothing

Carl Pei Nothing

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced the name of his new startup last week, and it’s literally called Nothing. It’s certainly an unconventional name for a company, and we’ve (I’ve?) made plenty of puns as a result.

Is Nothing a bad name though? Or does punny equal money? We asked Android Authority readers for their thoughts on the matter, and here’s what you told us.

Do you think Nothing is a good or bad name?

Results

We posted the poll on January 27, 2021, and a total of 1,005 votes were tallied as of writing. The results show that 55.2% of respondents thought Nothing was a good name. It’s certainly a departure from other names out there, which tend to be safe, boring and/or corporate.

In saying so, 44.8% of voters felt that Nothing was a bad name for a company. It’s easy to see why many people might vote this way too, as the name does seem like a bit of a lame inside joke that got out of hand. At least The Boring Company actually bores tunnels with boring machines.

We’re still waiting for Pei to reveal Nothing’s first products though, but it’s suggested that audio accessories such as headphones are in the pipeline. The executive also previously stated that the company was working on “multiple categories” of products.

Who knows, maybe the name will grow on more people by the time the company reveals its first products?

Thanks for voting in this poll! What do you think of Nothing’s name? Give us your thoughts via the comments below.
