Xiaomi hints at Mi Mix 4, new tablet this year

February 8, 2021

  • Xiaomi has teased the arrival of a new Mi Mix and tablet this year.
  • There’s no word on details for either model.

Xiaomi’s Mi Mix series is perhaps its most innovative phone series yet, popularizing the high screen/body ratio trend with the original Mi Mix and introducing a slider design with the Mi Mix 3.

We haven’t seen a new Mi Mix model since 2019’s Mi Mix 3 5G, but Xiaomi has now hinted that a Mi Mix 4 (or whatever it winds up being called) is on the cards for this year. Redmi general manager and Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing asked on Weibo whether users are looking forward to a Mi Mix. Check out the post below.

There’s clearly not much more to say, but Xiaomi recently teased the arrival of a new Mi Mix device this year as part of a promotion for CEO Lei Jun’s fan Q&A session on Weibo. You can view that teaser image below.

Either way, it sounds like a Mi Mix 4 is coming in 2021. There’s no word on specs, features, design, or pricing, but hopefully Xiaomi’s new phone isn’t heavily inspired by its recent portless concept phone with a quad-curved waterfall display.

We could definitely see a new Mi Mix device sporting an under-display selfie camera though, with Xiaomi first demonstrating the tech back in 2019. It’s also worth noting that the series generally does something different on the selfie camera front anyway.

For example, the Mi Mix and Mix 2 placed the selfie camera in the lower right corner of the screen, echoing the Nokia N9. Meanwhile, the Mi Mix 3 hid the selfie cameras behind a slider screen, while the Mi Mix Alpha concept eschewed a selfie camera entirely in favor of using the primary cameras and rear display. So it stands to reason that we aren’t going to get a conventional cutout or notch with a new phone.

This isn’t the only new tech teased by Xiaomi in recent days, as Weibing also asked Weibo users for any suggestions regarding tablets. Check out the post below.

Again, there isn’t much to go on aside from the fact that we should expect a tablet in the future. Xiaomi’s last tablet was 2018’s Mi Pad 4 Plus, being powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset and offering a hefty 8,620mAh battery. Hopefully any new tablet gives us a major power upgrade and high refresh rate, while keeping that huge battery.

What would you like to see from a new Mi Mix device though? Let us know via the poll below, or leave a comment!
