- Xiaomi has announced the China launch date for the Redmi K40 series.

Xiaomi has been teasing the Redmi K40 series for a while and now we finally have a launch date for the phones. According to the company’s Weibo post, the new Redmi lineup that includes a Snapdragon 888 flagship will be revealed in China on February 25.
Like the Redmi K30 phones before it, the K40 series will also bear an affordable price tag. Redmi General Manager, Lu Weibing previously confirmed that the phones will start retailing at 2,999 yuan (~$465). That’s significantly lower than the Mi 11 which also comes bearing Qualcomm’s latest processor but costs €749 (~$901) in Europe. Of course, the low-end pricing for the K40 series could be for a non-flagship model.
It’s believed that the company is also readying a mid-range model in the lineup powered by an announced Snapdragon 7-series chipset. The vanilla Redmi K30 from last year housed the Snapdragon 730G, so it’s not wrong to expect a follow-up to the device this year. This particular device is also rumored to sport an OLED display, a 64MP main camera, and 5X zoom.
Last year, the Redmi K30 Pro launched outside of China as the Poco F2 Pro. That makes it more than possible that at least one of the Remi K40 series phones could appear as a Poco device outside of Xiaomi’s home market.
Elsewhere, Xiaomi is expected to follow Apple and Samsung’s lead in ditching the charger from the packaging of the Redmi K40 phones. However, the company hinted that it might give customers a choice to get an in-box adapter.
Not much else is known about the upcoming series. Xiaomi has said that it’ll feature a punch-hole display and you can expect a high refresh rate given that the K30 series got 120Hz screens.
