  • Samsung will reportedly bring high refresh rate screens to its Galaxy A series for the first time.
  • The Galaxy A52 and A72 are said to offer 90Hz screens, while the A52 5G could have a 120Hz panel.

Samsung has offered high refresh rate screens on its flagship phones only, with the Galaxy S series, Galaxy Note range, and Galaxy Z Fold 2 all offering 120Hz displays.

Now, it looks like Samsung could be bringing high refresh rate screens to its budget-focused Galaxy A series for the first time. According to SamMobile, the upcoming Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 will both offer a 90Hz screen. It’s not quite 120Hz like the firm’s flagships, but should still be an improvement over the standard 60Hz refresh rate.

Fortunately, SamMobile claims that the Galaxy A52 5G will offer a 120Hz refresh rate, likely due to the phone packing a more capable Snapdragon 750G chipset compared to the A52 and A72’s less powerful Snapdragon 720G SoC. It’s worth noting however that even Snapdragon 765G phones struggled to hit 90fps or 120fps in our benchmark testing, although general performance was still smooth. So we’d expect a similar scenario with the Galaxy A52 5G.

The new 5G phone is also tipped to offer a 6.5-inch OLED screen, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, 128GB to 256GB of storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with 25W charging. The outlet adds that the phone also sports a 64MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide snapper, 5MP macro camera, 5MP depth sensor, and 32MP selfie shooter.

Either way, it seems like Samsung is catching up with rivals like Motorola, Xiaomi, and OnePlus in offering high refresh rate panels on cheaper phones.
