Apple’s third-generation iPhone SE now has a rumored launch timeline

The third-generation Apple iPhone SE might not launch in 2021.

Apple could wait until 2022 to update the compact flagship.

It’s expected to feature the same design and screen size.

Apple’s bet to revive its compact flagship phone in the form of the iPhone SE 2020 paid off big-time last year. The affordable 4.7-inch iPhone is not only a great performer with Apple’s A13 Bionic chip at its heart but also boasts a capable camera and a good design. While we haven’t heard anything from Apple about a successor to the pocket-friendly phone, a new tip suggests it won’t be coming anytime soon.

According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via Apple Insider), the third-generation iPhone SE will arrive only in the first half of 2022.

As part of his specifications forecast, Kuo claims that the next iPhone SE will retain the design and screen-size of the existing model. That means you can expect the same 4.7-inch display with thick top and bottom bezels and a form-factor suitable for single-handed use.

The key changes, Kuo says, will come in the form of an upgraded processor and 5G support.

What about the iPhone 13?

Kuo also offered up some details about this year’s iPhone 13 lineup in his latest note. He expects Apple to launch four models with the same screen sizes as the iPhone 12 series. All the 2021 iPhones are expected to have a smaller notch and feature Qualcomm’s X60M 5G chip.

The analyst believes that the two Pro models in the iPhone 13 series will include an upgraded six-piece ultra-wide camera with a wider f/1.8 aperture and autofocus. They could also get updated 120Hz LTPO displays for smoother functioning and power efficiency. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the high refresh-rate screens, and since iPads already have the feature, it only makes sense for the iPhone to catch up.
