  • A new leak points to Oppo’s foldable phone debuting in Q2.
  • This means we could see the device by the end of June.

Samsung has dominated the foldable phone landscape so far, thanks to devices like the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 2. We’ve also seen a new foldable from Huawei, and it looks like Oppo could soon be joining the party as well.

According to frequent tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Oppo is expected to debut its first foldable phone in Q2. This means we could see it as soon as next month or by the end of June if the firm sticks to a Q2 launch window.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Oppo releasing a foldable phone in 2021, as display analyst Ross Young previously claimed that Oppo (along with Google, Vivo, and Xiaomi) would be launching foldables this year. But the latest leak suggests the Oppo foldable is closer to launch than expected.

The news also makes us wonder what this means for the firm’s rollable phone project. The Oppo X 2021 rollable phone was revealed late last year, but the company told Android Authority at the time that there was no plan for a commercial release “in the short-term.” However, it looks like the company has recently let a few YouTubers spend some time with the gadget, suggesting it’s almost ready for a commercial launch too.

In other words, we wouldn’t be surprised if Oppo launched both the foldable and rollable phone within a few months of each other.
