  • OnePlus has detailed a unique Morning Mist color coming to the 9 Pro.
  • The unique finish has reflectivity that changes from top to bottom.
  • Expect OnePlus to brag further about its design on March 23.

Phone makers are increasingly relying on clever finishes to sell you on their latest handsets, and that includes OnePlus. The company has detailed one of the colors for the OnePlus 9 Pro, Morning Mist, and it’s clear this isn’t just a fanciful name for “silver.”

The new OnePlus 9 color revolves around a combination of a film and reflective glass that produce a gradient refraction. While the finish starts at 60 degrees of diffusion (hence the “mist”) at the top of the phone, it shifts to a more mirror-like 20 percent toward the bottom. You’ll get some reflection, then, but the company is aiming for a more ghostly look than a straightforward mirror finish would provide.

It’s not certain if OnePlus will talk about other colors, although we wouldn’t be surprised to hear more in the days running up to the 9 series’ debut on March 23. Leaks previously suggested the phones will come in everything from a vivid baby blue through to subtle green and purple shades, but it wasn’t apparent how (if at all) silver and black might stand out.

You’re probably more interested in the functionality of the phone, such as those can’t-miss-it Hasselblad cameras or the Snapdragon 888 chip. Moreover, there’s a good chance any color choices will go unappreciated by users putting the OnePlus 9 Pro in cases. If you’re determined to show off your phone, though, you might just be pleased.
