LG Rollable appears on Bluetooth SIG site, official launch imminent?

LG Rollable Phone CES 2021

  • The LG Rollable phone has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG certification site.
  • This suggests that LG hasn’t completely canned the project as recent reports suggest.
  • Little else is known about the device, but it will pack Bluetooth 5.2 support.

The LG Rollable phone’s future has been clouded in doubt by recent reports and rumors that LG may sell its mobile device division. While LG has always maintained that the project is not dead, there’s now some concrete evidence to support its claims.

As spotted by MySmartPrice, the LG Rollable phone has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG site. The listing, published on March 19, suggests that the phone will feature Bluetooth 5.2 support. The device is confirmed to wear the model number LM-R910N. Nothing else is revealed by the listing, but it’s as clear a sign yet that the LG Rollable is on course for an official debut at some point in the future.

As for specs, the existence of Bluetooth 5.2 does perhaps narrow down LG’s chipset options. It’s rumored that the Snapdragon 888 will be used, but LG may also be open to the Snapdragon 865 Plus or mid-field Snapdragon 768G. The company isn’t overly focused on processing power for its Explorer series, as the Snapdragon 765G-powered LG Wing suggests.

Despite the listing’s existence, the phone’s release date remains a doubt. But at least now it seems to be a case of when rather than if the LG Rollable will be available to consumers.

If LG does want to be first to the rollable phone market, it may not have much time. A number of other firms are set to launch rollable phones. Oppo demonstrated its X 2021 concept earlier this year, suggesting it’s not too far behind.
