One company is worth over a trillion the other is underdog now. One company is flexing it’s muscles because it got embarrassed last generation. They are showing the power of their checkbook while the other cannot do the same.
People don’t like to hear this but when you keep pushing your competition to the brink they will act out so if Microsoft thinks it will just keep buying publishers and sony won’t react than they are really under estimating sony. Sony doesn’t mind spending 15 to 20 billion dollars if push comes to serve.
My reasoning is simple: Microsoft does not depend on Xbox at all to make a profit while Sony depends on PlayStation to survive yes the word survive. so if it comes to a desperate time it would really not surprise me if Sony were to become very aggressive and try to buy square enix Capcom Sega Konami or Warner Brothers (not saying they would try to buy them all but 3 of them are a real possibility especially if ms acquires another publisher.
And those who are so happy with Microsoft acquiring Bethesda I wonder how would they feel if Sony were to buy Take two, square or Capcom? Than the same ones would complain. By end of this generation I truly believe this:
Ms will acquire 1 big and one medium size publisher
Sony will acquire 3-4 medium size publishers (medium is square, capcom, sega, from software, konami)
This will hurt xbox way more than it will hurt PlayStation. PlayStation will require their box to play the games(and if they acquire square enix, capcom, konami or sega those a lot for legendary IP’s) while Xbox games could be played on PC and if Xcloud is all it’s made it to be than many other platforms too
