You don’t think the OnePlus 9 series is hot at all

OnePlus spent days leading up to the OnePlus 9 series launch hyping its new flagship line. It touted a camera partnership with Hasselblad, spoke of improved wireless charging, and flaunted a new set of colorways. There was plenty to whet fans’ appetites. Despite all this, the OnePlus 9 series hasn’t been met with fanfare by polled readers.

In a recent poll, we asked how you felt about the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Are these phones hot or not? Here are the results.

OnePlus 9: Hot or not?

OnePlus 9 Pro: Hot or not?

Results

We published two polls on launch day — one for the vanilla OnePlus 9, and another for the OnePlus 9 Pro. Both garnered around 1,800 votes apiece, but the results are far from positive.

More than 70% of respondents believe that the OnePlus 9 is far from hot.

The OnePlus 9 Pro doesn’t fare much better. Although this poll saw a lower tally than the other, 67.5% of respondents also voted “not.” This result is surprising considering the findings in our review. Bar the Pro’s battery life and 5G issues, it’s one of the best OnePlus phones in years.

To contrast this result with other OnePlus polls, nearly 70% of respondents in our OnePlus Nord poll from last year called that particular device “hot.” That poll saw nearly 30,000 votes, too. Android Authority readers just don’t seem that interested in the OnePlus 9 series.

The comments largely echo this disenchantment with the series that extends to the brand itself.

Here’s what you told us

  • Drone9: Let’s face it. Oneplus has grown slack with software support. If you’re a previous Oneplus user like me, you’ll realize that consistent, regular updates only last for a moment after getting the phone. Shortly after, you’re pretty much chucked aside.
  • Ali Marwan: As a OnePlus 7 Pro owner I know what it’s like owning a OnePlus, you think all the bugs will be sorted out with a quick update. Lol.
  • Tomas: I don’t think oneplus is good choice anymore. I had 3T for around 3 years and it was amazing for 440€. But now Oneplus cost as much as Samsung and Samsung is giving faster and longer software support. Oneplus was my favourite brand and software but now its just overpriced.
  • Tennisfreak: IMO OnePlus phones remain the most over hyped and talked about phones by media outlets. They dont offer great value any more, always have compromises, and the hardware is nothing special.
  • Amit: Hasselblad is the just the name they are using to increase the price. Rest the phone is just a usual upgrade from Oneplus 8t.

That’s it for our OnePlus 9 series poll. Thanks for your votes and comments. If you have any additional thoughts on the phones or the poll results be sure to drop them down below.
