Suunto’s latest fitness watches boast titanium and turn-by-turn navigation

  • Suunto has introduced two new fitness watches, the 7 Titanium and 9 Baro Titanium.
  • Both include titanium bezels and turn-by-turn navigation.
  • They’re available to order at prices of $499 for the 7 Titanium and $599 for the 9 Baro Titanium.

Suunto is known for fitness smartwatches that are pricey but capable, and it’s driving that point home with its latest models. The company has introduced Suunto 7 Titanium (shown below) and 9 Baro Titanium (above), watch models that better justify their prices with fresh designs and meaningful feature updates.

Both Suunto watches have a new “minimalistic” design with titanium bezels that are lighter without compromising on toughness. You can also expect turn-by-turn navigation from Komoot to help you navigate on foot without reaching for your phone.

After that, the upgrades vary widely. The Wear OS-based Suunto 7 Titanium includes enhanced sleep tracking tools (coming to earlier 7 watch models through an update) that include new tiles for tracking sleep stages, managing body resources, and obtaining heart rate feedback. The 9 Baro Titanium, meanwhile, is built for heavy-duty outdoor use with military-grade water, dust, and shock resistance as well as 170 hours of GPS battery life through a special Tour Mode — you won’t have to charge every day just to keep positioning active. Suunto also touts point-of-interest directions.

The specs are otherwise familiar. The Suunto 7 Titanium is as much about everyday use as it is a fitness watch, balancing its 70-plus sport tracking modes, heart rate sensor, altimeter, and 50-meter water resistance with common Wear OS extras like NFC for Google Pay. The Suunto 9 Baro Titanium is built with sports in mind and includes 100-meter water resistance, over 80 sports modes and a scratch-resistant sapphire screen.

The Suunto 9 Baro Titanium is available now for $599, or the same price as a non-titanium watch. Pre-orders for the 7 Titanium are open ahead of its April 21 ship date for the same $499 as its regular predecessor. These still aren’t trivial purchases, but the case material upgrade by itself is notable. Titanium sometimes adds a lot to the price of a watch — getting the light-yet-strong metal for “free” is a definite bonus that might make your workouts slightly easier to bear.
