Sony hints at mobile games based on first party PlayStation franchises

Sony’s PlayStation business has been booming for a while now, and a large part of this success can be attributed to the exclusive games available on PlayStation consoles. Now, it looks like the Japanese giant is working on bringing some of these properties to the mobile arena.

“Mobile is just one of the areas we are exploring to reach millions of gamers beyond our platforms,” Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan was quoted as saying during Sony’s corporate strategy meeting (h/t: Gamespot).

“PlayStation has a huge catalog of diverse first-party IP that can transition to smartphone gaming and complement our AAA games or live service games. We are exploring the mobile market with some wonderful PlayStation franchises so please stay tuned.”

Sony previously brought Uncharted Fortune Hunter to mobile back in 2016, but we haven’t really seen any other first-party franchises land on smartphones since then. But it certainly sounds like Sony now has big plans in this regard. The firm has plenty of franchises to choose from as well, ranging from God of War and The Last of Us to Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima.

This isn’t the only way Sony is leveraging its gaming properties either, as the firm has a number of movies and TV shows in the works that are based on PlayStation franchises.

Are there any specific PlayStation-affiliated franchises you’d like to see on smartphones? Let us know by taking the poll above or leaving a comment!
