Small Price Hike, Small Feature Adjustments, New Logo

June 4, 2021

When a company completely rethinks its midsize sedan strategy, dropping a two-decade-old name and giving it sharp styling, it’s not likely to enact large changes to the four-door family vehicle come the following model year. So it is with the 2022 Kia K5, which brings some minor updates but no significant updates to an already much-changed sedan.

First of all, there’s a small price hike. The base LX trim’s price increases by $100 to $24,685, while the top-of-the-line GT trim with its powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 sits at $32,085—a jump of $500 from its $31,585 sticker for 2021. This extra fee is partly offset by additional features on several trims, including the GT, including additional wireless chargers and a standard in-dash navigation system.

The 2022 K5 also adopts Kia’s new corporate logo, an elegant but somewhat abstract representation of the brand’s name. It’s more aggressive and more modern than the outgoing logo, and it better matches the character of Kia’s latest version of its corporate styling language, which on the whole has been well received. All in all, the new logo is a good fit for the K5.

Lastly, there’s a new option package for the GT-Line AWD trim: the Premium package. It includes LED projector headlights, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof, as well as a package of driver assistance features such as the brand’s Level 2 Highway Driving Assist and an adaptive cruise control system capable of gleaning roadway information from the car’s navigation system. The 2022 Kia K5 is already on sale.
