Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE official, but might see delay

Today, Samsung officially launched a new tablet (h/t SamMobile). Landing with the “Fan Edition” branding, it’s a more budget-oriented take on the company’s successful Galaxy Tab S7 series.

Those of you familiar with the Fan Edition moniker will know how this works. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE looks a lot like the regular Tab S7 but pares down some features to lower the price. Samsung has seen great success with this strategy when it comes to smartphones, with the Galaxy S20 FE being our favorite phone of 2020. This is the first time Samsung’s used the branding for a tablet, though.

Unfortunately, the tablet is only officially out in Russia currently. What’s more, a report from South Korea (Samsung’s home turf) suggests that it could be a Russia exclusive for quite a while. According to the report, the ongoing global chip shortage might be preventing Samsung from doing a wider release.

The tablet starts at 49,990 Russian rubles (~$696) for the 4GB/64GB LTE version. There’s also a 6GB/128GB LTE version for 54,990 rubles (~$765). These prices are strange because the Galaxy Tab S7 itself starts at $649. However, pricing for different countries rarely translates unilaterally.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE: Specs and features

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE comes with a 12.4-inch display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, which should deliver a solid (but still mid-range) experience. It has a solitary 5MP camera on the front and an 8MP shooter on the back.

Android 11 powers the tablet and there’s a 10,090mAh battery inside that charges at 45W with a cable.

Included with the tablet is an S Pen, the same one that comes with the mainline Tab S7 models. However, the tablet does not have a place to store the tablet internally — nor a headphone jack.

You’ll have a few color choices for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE, including black, silver, green, and pink.
