Google might ship a new Pixel Stand charger alongside the Pixel 6

TL;DR

  • Android 12 code hints at a sequel to the Pixel Stand that might ship alongside the Pixel 6.
  • It might even have a automated fan system to enable faster wireless charging.
  • The Pixel 6 could compete with OnePlus and others with fast wireless pads.

Don’t worry too much if you miss the Pixel Stand — it might be staging a comeback. The 9to5Google team has discovered Android 12 beta 2 code hinting at a new Made By Google wireless charger that might debut alongside the Pixel 6.

Nicknamed “Luxuryliner” (the original Pixel Stand was “Dreamliner”), the new charger appears to include cooling fans like those you’d find in the OnePlus Warp Charge 50. You’d even have the option to toggle between “auto,” “quiet,” and “power boost” modes that ramp the fans up or down, suggesting that fast wireless charging will be an option if you’re willing to tolerate some noise.

The new Pixel Stand might even control fan speed depending on apps or conditions. Head to sleep with bedtime mode turned on and the fans would quiet down to help you fall asleep. Likewise, Google Recorder would hush the fans to prevent the noise from interrupting your voice capture.

The code isn’t a guarantee that a revised Pixel Stand will make an appearance when Google launches the Pixel 6 later this year. However, its introduction would make sense if Pixel 6 rumors are correct. Google’s next phone is believed to once again boast flagship specs after last year’s shift to the mid-range with the Pixel 5. If so, a fast wireless charger would make sense. Google could deliver charging performance that rivals the best the competition has to offer, even if it means buying an expensive accessory.
